With limited time, it can be difficult for social studies teachers to address current events in the classroom, write Jody Passanisi and Shara Peters, both eighth-grade U.S. history teachers. In this blog post, they share their four-step process for regularly including current events in lessons. First, students are provided with a list of resources and articles and are asked to write a summary. Then, depending on their grade level, students may be asked to form opinions about the events, identify bias or -- for older students -- connect the current event to the history curriculum.
