Researchers reviewing records of 2,089 dermal filler injections performed between Jan. 1, 2007, and Dec. 31, 2011, found 14 complications, the most frequent of which was nodule or granuloma formation. The study, reported in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, confirmed the safety of injectable hyaluronic acid, poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite, though researchers cautioned the procedures are not without risk.
