The U.S. Supreme Court has determined in a 7-2 decision that Arizona does not have the authority to require people to provide additional documentation when using a federal voter-registration form. Arizona had argued that the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 only required the state to use the form as part of the registration process. "Arizona's reading would permit a State to demand of Federal Form applicants every additional piece of information the State requires on its state-specific form," Justice Antonin Scalia wrote for the majority.
