Major US retailers including Wal-Mart and Gap are reportedly close to signing a five-year agreement that would establish a $50 million fund to make Bangladesh's garment factories safer. The group, which also includes Macy's, Target and Sears, opted not to commit to a more binding accord signed by many major European retailers after the April building collapse that killed more than 1,100 people, and chose instead to craft a deal that doesn't expose them to broad legal liability.
