The volume of 20-foot-equivalent units at the Port of Virginia climbed 7.2% in May year-on-year, while container cargo transported by rail rose 35.3% in the same period. "On a fiscal year-to-date basis, the 11 months of fiscal 2013, through May, add up to be the best fiscal-year performance in our history," said Rodney Oliver, Virginia Port Authority interim executive director. "We're expecting this to continue as more ocean carriers are expressing interest in our deep-water and rail connections."
