A contract worth almost $1.3 billion to build the 8.5-mile Crenshaw/LAX light-rail project in California has been awarded to Walsh Construction and J.F. Shea by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors. The MTA has budgeted roughly $2.06 billion for the project, which includes a $160 million contingency fund. Utility work has already started and actual construction is slated to begin by spring, with the project scheduled for completion by 2019.
