Google has reportedly moved to keep Waze, a developer of social media mobile applications, out of Facebook's hands by offering $1.1 billion to buy the company, according to published reports, which say an official announcement of the deal is close. "Google needs to maintain supremacy in maps, as they are a key to mobile advertising. They need more ways to shore up their social efforts," Gartner analyst Andrew Frank said. Waze takes feedback from its more than 40 million users to provide updated traffic information to drivers.
