Women are making great contributions to science and engineering, but they are less likely than men to patent their ideas and to focus on entrepreneurial opportunities, according to MIT professor Fiona Murray. In addition, data show that a low percentage of venture-capital funds goes to companies led by women. "[E]ven when women are founding similar types of innovation-driven businesses, evaluators are less likely to show interest in their businesses," she said.
