Food producers are seeking ways to make their products look a little less perfect as consumers signal that they prefer natural-looking foodstuffs. McDonald's makes the eggs on its Egg McMuffins less circular, and Kraft Foods spent two years developing a meat-slicing technology that emulates the uneven slices produced by human meat-carvers. "The goal is to get the same action as if you were cutting with a knife," said Kraft engineer Paul Morin.
