Freight carload traffic on U.S. railroads dropped 3% in the week ending July 20 compared to the same period in 2012, but intermodal activity rose 2.8%, according to the Association of American Railroads. Half of the 10 carload categories posted gains, led by a 28% increase in shipments of petroleum and petroleum products.
