Freight carload volume on U.S. railroads rose 2% in the week ending July 6 over the same period last year, and intermodal rose 1.1%, according to the Association of American Railroads. Petroleum and petroleum commodities surged 36.3% in the latest week, and half of the 10 shipment categories posted gains. Combined U.S. traffic also climbed 1.6% year-on-year, AAR noted.
