The Affordable Care Act saved more than 6.6 million seniors a total of $7 billion on prescription medicines, for average savings of $1,061 per individual, HHS announced Monday. The Medicare "doughnut hole" is being phased out by the law. "Medicare is much stronger as a result of the health care law," HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said. "Spending has slowed to historic levels as seniors are enjoying enhanced benefits and greater savings on drugs."
