A panel of the U.S. Department of Education is urging the two Common Core State Standards assessment consortia to focus more attention on accessibility for students with disabilities and English-language learners. In a technical review of the common core tests under development by the two multistate consortia, the panel also praised both consortia for the efforts, such as PARCC's draft accommodation guidelines and Smarter Balance's use of universal design.
