Data on more than 73,000 hypertension patients showed those who did not adhere to their medication schedules were more likely than their adherent counterparts to die from stroke. "These results emphasize the importance of hypertensive [high blood pressure] patients taking their antihypertensive medications correctly in order to minimize their risk of serious complications such as fatal and non-fatal strokes," researcher Dr. Kimmo Herttua said. The results appear in the European Heart Journal.
