All Arizona students will learn about personal finance as part of a bill approved by lawmakers and the governor. Financial literacy is already a part of many social studies and economics courses in the state, but officials say that the new law is symbolic and that it ensures instruction for all students. "Now the words 'personal finance' are in state law to require that they are absolutely ... in the standards. It's always been optional," said state Sen. Kimberly Yee, R-Phoenix, chair of the Senate Education Committee and sponsor of the legislation.
