Audit fees paid by 87 publicly traded companies surveyed by Financial Executives International increased 4% in fiscal 2012 compared with fiscal 2011, averaging $4.5 million. Fees paid by 118 privately held companies surveyed climbed 3%, averaging $147,800. Fees increased 1%, to $265,400, for 16 nonprofits surveyed.
