Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Director James Watson announced on Tuesday that he is leaving his post later this year to become president and chief operating officer of maritime classification society ABS' Americas division. His departure comes as regulators are working on new offshore-drilling safety rules. Watson and the oil and natural gas industry have worked toward "the common goals of safety and environmental protection in offshore operations," said Erik Milito, the American Petroleum Institute's upstream director.
