Hundreds of students from San Diego County, Calif., are designing and building solar-powered cars and completing other projects as part of a free summer program sponsored by the National Society of Black Engineers. Women and minority college students from San Diego, Detroit and Washington, D.C., teach students about engineering while emphasizing science, technology and math skills. "It's very important to expose children to engineering, math and science so they know what's possible for their futures," said Naomie Crowder, a chemical engineering major at Ohio University who is a teacher in the summer program.
