Chinese mall owners are offering rent deals and paying to outfit stores to attract global retail brands including H&M and Zara, to stave off vacancies as a result of the current mall-building boom. The perks, once offered only to luxury brands, come as mall owners fight growing competition and cooling consumer demand; half of the 344 million square feet of retail space now under construction is in China, according to CBRE Group.
