Some members of the Town Council in West Springfield, Mass., have called a special meeting for Tuesday to schedule a date for a casino referendum. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino New England has proposed an $800 million resort for the town.
A proposed casino for Prince George's County, Md., could have more than 3,000 slot machines, according to a lawyer from the Maryland attorney general's office. "It is my view that the Location Commission is not prohibited from awarding more than 3,000 (machines) ... to the Prince George's County operation licensee," attorney Robert T. Fontaine said.
Wynn Resorts has proposed a $1.2 billion resort casino along the waterfront in Everett, Mass. However, the project would exceed current limits for building height along the waterfront. A proposed harbor plan would allow for the resort as long as there is public access to the waterfront. "The Wynn development is not far off from what is required by the state. The harbor plan will address how we reconfigure things," said Sarah D. Kelly, a senior associate at city consultant Fort Point Associates.
Leominster, Mass., has completed a host agreement with the Cordish Cos. for a proposed slots parlor. Mayor Dean J. Mazzarella said Cordish would pay the town about $4 million a year to operate the facility, which plans to have 1,250 slot machines.
