Blogger Peter Garrison, writes about his own experiences with home-built airplanes. He says that when he started in 1963, there weren't any kits available and only a few plans, but Garrison wanted to design his own aircraft anyway. He was an English major in college and says, "I knew nothing about engineering, stress analysis, calculus, aerodynamics, materials, construction methods or aircraft systems." But by the time he completed the Melmoth, he knew more or less how to do it.
