While 33% of American children are overweight, only 10% of parents with children ages six to 18 think that about their own child, according to the Food Marketing Institute's 2013 annual Shopping for Health survey. Only about a third of parents always buy healthier food for their children, with most buying what their kids like or they find easy to prepare. Many cite the higher cost of eating healthier for their decisions.
