Even after 2014, it won't be possible for Afghanistan's military to operate solely on its own, without U.S. help, the Pentagon has told Congress in a report. The Afghan military will need "substantial" money and training, the report said. The Pentagon noted that the Taliban's power in the country is waning, but that it still holds influence in rural areas and that corruption is hampering effective government in Afghanistan.
