Designing with the Apple plug-and-play approach in mind, two newly minted U.K. engineers have come up with a hybrid diesel-electric engine that easily can be installed in existing buses in a matter of hours. Imperial College graduates Alex Schey and Toby Schulz say the hybrid from their startup company can save a typical double-decker bus about $30,000 a year in fuel costs in stop-and-go traffic and cut emissions by 40%.
