Ethanol in gasoline can damage the insides of small engines that power lawn mowers, chain saws and other lawn equipment, said Marty Callantine, shop foreman at Ellington's Small Engine Repair in Kansas. To prevent this, use ethanol-free gasoline or add a fuel stabilizer, he said. It's also best to avoid using gasoline that has been sitting for more than 45 days, he added.
