Federal regulators on Tuesday began the process under which the government might require U.S.-based automakers to build wireless-enabled "connected-vehicle technology" into cars, trucks and buses as a safety measure. The National Transportation Safety Board issued the proposal in the wake of a pair of school bus accidents in 2012. The NTSB's report could lead the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue rules mandating action from automakers. Also, AT&T will provide a network connection to Audiovox's telematics and location-based vehicle service system.
