The Government Accountability Office should assess how increased domestic oil and natural gas production may affect transportation safety, said Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va. "Production throughout the Marcellus Shale region, including in West Virginia, is straining infrastructure, often located in rural areas, to the point that producers are calling for larger highway interstate connections and increased transportation capacity overall," the lawmaker wrote in a letter to GAO.
