The entire country has seen a wet summer, but the South is especially drenched after some states received 25% to 34% more rainfall than normal as of the end of June. Watermelon fields have sustained the worst damage, with some farmers expecting to lose half their crop. Growers of peaches, tomatoes and tobacco have also suffered heavily losses. The rain could also affect the peanut and pecan harvests later this year.
