The House Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies appropriations subcommittee approved a bill Wednesday that would cut $500 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's requested 2014 budget, resulting in a budget that would be $300 million less than this year's. Although the bill protects the National Weather Service and fully funds two weather satellite programs, the budget could negatively affect research and fisheries management programs.
