Teachers can alter their direct instructional methods to help foster student discovery, Edutopia consulting online editor Rebecca Alber writes in this blog post. She suggests teaching students about imagery by reading a short story to the class and asking students to indicate which words create images in their mind. Then students work in pairs to create pictures of the words that they have in common and discuss their images.
