Wal-Mart and the National Park Service have banned wild-caught Alaska salmon from their facilities because of the Alaska fishing industry's decision to forgo formal eco-certification. Alaska officials said the move highlighted problems with retailers' reliance on rigid certification programs. "[S]ustainable labeling has grown beyond the days when domination by a single eco-label was a viable option," Gov. Sean Parnell wrote in a letter to Wal-Mart.
