Macy's and Office Depot are among the retailers stepping up mobile marketing efforts to push back-to-school sales. Office Depot is using augmented reality on its application and giving away One Direction concert tickets via receipt-code entries into a contest, and Macy's is hosting a college-level SMS contest for a $500 gift card and fashioning its app as a shopping companion, writes Chantal Tode.
