Science, technology, engineering and math professionals are visiting sixth-grade classrooms throughout Massachusetts to help students learn more about careers in software development, broadcasting, manufacturing, health care and other STEM fields. The volunteers, whose employers include ESPN and General Dynamics, are part of the DIGITS program, which has expanded to 13 schools since it was piloted in five last year. "Every time we send a volunteer into the classroom, we have the possibility to catch students' attention," DIGITS CEO Joyce L. Plotkin said.
