Teachers nationwide last school year spent about $3.2 billion on supplies and materials -- with about half of that being paid with their own money, according to the results of a recent survey by the National School Supply and Equipment Association. The survey found that 99.5% of teachers reported spending their own money on supplies, with each spending on average $485 of their own money on classroom materials.
