Cybersecurity investments are being beefed up at some agencies, including the Defense Department, where officials are seeking an 18% increase in funding for next year. This comes while much of the federal government struggles to make ends meet in light of ongoing sequestration, John Slye writes. The Pentagon says it expects to spend $23 billion on cybersecurity over the next five years on systems and personnel. Across the federal government, roughly one-third of IT security staff are private contractors.
