A modified, low-cost peristaltic pump normally used in medicine was the ultimate solution for the toughest problem encountered by the developers of Bartendro, a robot bartender. "It’s pretty elegant. One revolution of the rotor dispenses about 3 millimeters, and we can detect one-eighth of a revolution. ... It’s been good enough for even the most discerning palate," said Pierre Michael, who is currently testing Bartendro.
