The International Astronomical Union named Pluto's two recently discovered moons Kerberos and Styx, continuing the trend in giving the dwarf planet and its three other moons names based on Greek or Roman mythology. An international public vote had chosen the name Vulcan, but the IAU vetoed it because it has been used elsewhere in astronomy and is not associated with Pluto's namesake, the mythological ruler of the underworld.
