Two cases of Borrelia miyamotoi infection, a tick-borne illness with flu-like symptoms similar to Lyme disease, were reported in Massachusetts and New Jersey, according to a report in the Annals of Internal Medicine. John Branda, M.D., and Eric Rosenberg, M.D., wrote in an accompanying editorial that B. miyamotoi infection should be considered during summer months for patients living in areas where Lyme disease is prevalent who present with unexplained fever, headache, myalgia, elevated hepatic aminotransferase levels, and leukopenia or thrombocytopenia.
