Grisel Jaramillo will soon see her dog Bailey, who went missing for six years but was reconnected to her thanks to a microchip. Bailey was taken from Jaramillo's front yard in Texas six years ago. A woman in Indianapolis found him last week and brought him to a veterinarian's office where staff identified his microchip.
Brandon Scott was born without most of his four limbs due to a rare disease, but with the help of his service dog, Rona, he recently graduated from college and is planning a career in sports media or public relations. Rona was trained by Canine Companions for Independence and has been by Scott's side since he applied for a dog as a sixth-grader.
After donors made it possible for her dog Callie to have needed surgery and veterinary care, Betsy Alt started a pet food pantry to help other pet owners. The organization, Callie Cares, has completed two distributions so far and has received generous donations, much like when Alt sought help for her own dog. "I think what surprised me is that people I didn't know at all were willing to help and get involved. Now some of them are getting involved with this organization as well," she says.
