Developers of the Next Generation Science Standards have spent three years crafting a system they hope will help students of all backgrounds learn advanced science. A diversity and equity group comprised of classroom teachers and others reviewed the standards for bias and sensitivity issues. The group then developed an appendix to the standards that offers strategies for making them accessible to all students. "Science really can be the great equalizer," said Stephen L. Pruitt, a former teacher who helped oversee the creation of the standards.
