Fast-food chains are blaming the Renewable Fuel Standard for the run-up in retail food prices, saying that ethanol production is taking up a large portion of the nation's corn, leaving less for other uses. Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, said it is wrong to blame ethanol because the biggest factor in food prices is the cost of oil. "We absolutely believe that the chain restaurants are trying to pull a super-sized whopper here," as there is no direct correlation between ethanol production and rising food costs, Dinneen said.
