Lower-than-expected sales for high-end smartphones and continuing woes in the PC market are leading companies such as Broadcom, OmniVision Technologies and Qualcomm to cut back on their wafer-start orders with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, DigiTimes reports, citing industry observers. The foundry is, however, increasing shipments of chips made with its 28-nanometer HPL high-k/metal gate process, those sources said.
