Patients with high blood pressure who did not stick with their medication regimen had a higher risk of stroke and death than those who were compliant, University of Helsinki researchers reported in the European Heart Journal. Lead author Dr. Kimmo Herttua said patients who were non-adherent had higher risks 10 years before having a stroke. Researchers followed 73,000 people with high blood pressure in Finland and analyzed compliance based on the filling of prescriptions.
