Diabetes patients of all races who received formal inpatient diabetes education had a lower risk of 30-day readmission than those who did not, but a reduced risk of 180-day readmission was only seen in blacks, a study found. Another study showed being older than 75 and having severe diabetes complications increased the risk of readmission by 15% and 15.7%, respectively, in Medicare patients with type 2 diabetes. The findings were presented at the American Diabetes Association's 73rd Scientific Sessions.
