Women who consumed the highest levels of omega-3 fatty acids from fish had a 14% lower likelihood of breast cancer than those who consumed the least, according to a review of 26 international studies involving nearly 900,000 women. The risk of breast cancer decreased by 5% for every 0.1-gram increase in daily omega-3 consumption, researchers in China determined. Plant-based omega-3 consumption wasn't associated with a similar reduction in risk.
