Mayo Clinic researchers surveyed 2,556 physicians and found 36% said they had a major responsibility in controlling health care costs, while more than 50% said they had some responsibility. The report in the Journal of the American Medical Association found physicians were very or at least somewhat enthusiastic about efforts to promote quality of care but were not keen on eliminating fee-for-service pay, reducing Medicare reimbursements or imposing readmission penalties.
