North America's utilities are moving full speed ahead into the smart grid, but there is new evidence they are not entirely prepared for what will happen once they get there. According to a study by Oracle, while utilities are making "incremental" progress in integrating advanced metering infrastructure into their operations, more than half say they lack the Big Data skills necessary to apply next-generation technologies toward better customer service, while only 17% said they are "completely prepared" to manage smart grid data.
