The Texas A&M University veterinary school is building a $2.8 million, 11,000-square-foot aviary that will have the capacity to house hundreds of birds and have a hospital, laboratory, and isolation and quarantine rooms in addition to teaching space. Veterinary school dean and veterinarian Eleanor Green said the school's avian programs have been steadily expanding, and professor and veterinarian Ian Tizard said the core mission of the facility will be to teach "veterinarians how to handle, how to grow and how to manage birds."
