Airbus recorded 241 firm orders for aircraft in June, boosting its backlog of unfilled orders to more than 5,000 aircraft. Airbus set a goal of 800 aircraft orders this year, and net orders for the first half of the year totaled 722 aircraft.
Boeing delivered 169 commercial aircraft during the second quarter, a 15-year high for its quarterly deliveries. The aircraft manufacturer has delivered 309 commercial aircraft for the first half of the year.
Alaska Airlines plans to replace the aircraft the carrier uses to fly between Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska. The carrier has purchased three Bombardier Q400 turboprops for the route, which will replace Boeing 737 jets. "These planes are really advanced and I think passengers are going to have a very nice travel experience," said Marilyn Romano, Alaska Airlines regional vice president.
