Seventeen U.S. retailers including Wal-Mart, Gap, Target, Kohl's and Macy's will unveil a plan today to improve safety at the Bangladesh factories that make the clothing they sell, with each pledging money based on how much merchandise they source from the country. The agreement, dubbed the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, calls on retailers to inspect their Bangladesh factories within 12 months and develop plans to fix any substantial safety problems.
